April, in the Elements!

Oh, the elements of nature--spring is in full bloom in the Presidio, and I've been doing my part to get out and enjoy it while I can...
I started this Sat with beach clean up at Ocean Beach--sunny but cool outside. Who knew there was so much GLASS lurking in the sand?! And that you weren't allowed to officially volunteer if you wore flip-flops to the beach (strange, but not so much so when you read my former glass comment). Anyhow, fun times, I got a pin, and still helped clean the beach!
Then it was on to my afternoon gust=tastic :) trip across the Golden Gate. Laura F was brave enough to rise the challenge with me, but when I say "windy" I mean, blow-you-off-your-bike, pedaling-hard-but-you-don't-move, GUSTY winds! We stopped for some picts (see below) at one of the bridge arches and there was a crazy wind tunnel created by the physics of the bridge. People would literally come around the corner and be knocked back, almost blown off thier bikes (must admit, it was kinda funny to watch--but we were good citizens and warned some people :)

This pict looks windy, but doesn't do justice to the gust--it was so intense!

Laura (above) and I could both lean at almost a 45 degree angle and be held up by the wind alone!

So, horray for my biking "goal" that pushed us to bike in conditions I probably wouldn't have braved under different circumstances. It was hard, crazy, and cold, but OH SO EXHILIRATING to feel the power of the elements on SF's greatest icon!
